An Arizona man is under suspicion for allegedly killing his brother, driving away, and later returning to the scene with his parents. Christopher Eaves, 49, faces serious charges, including first-degree murder and burglary, related to the death of his brother, James “Artie” Eaves, on March 21.
James, who was 51, was discovered lying face down in the driveway of his northeast Phoenix home early that morning. When police arrived, they noted damage to the garage door and broken glass from a patio door. Investigators also found several shell casings at the scene, including five in the driveway and one inside the house.
Witnesses reported hearing a series of gunshots, starting with a single shot followed by multiple others. One witness saw a white BMW SUV driving quickly away from the area shortly after the shots were fired and noted the driver’s distinctive appearance.
The witness also recorded the vehicle’s license plate number, which was traced back to Christopher. According to police, while officers were executing a search warrant at the home, Christopher returned with his parents and was taken into custody.
Surveillance video captured the BMW reversing into the garage door and then moving forward. The footage allegedly shows Christopher exiting the car, wearing a distinctive hoodie. He was reportedly seen removing a firearm from his waistband and walking toward the home.
Authorities later found a hoodie matching the one seen in the video in his parents’ vehicle. Additional video evidence showed James arriving home just before the shooting and noticing the BMW parked outside.
Further investigation revealed the firearm used in the incident located in Christopher’s bedroom. The gun was found loaded and matched the shell casings from the scene.
James Eaves was a respected attorney who worked for the Sanders & Parks law firm, and his tragic death has left a significant impact on the local community. Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell expressed her sorrow, sharing that James was a cherished friend and colleague and that he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. She extended her prayers to his family during this difficult time.
