Brooke Shields Critiques Meghan Markle’s "Precious" Anecdote
In a recent podcast with India Hicks, actress Brooke Shields shared her thoughts on Meghan Markle, describing her as "too precious." This comment came after an encounter at last year’s South by Southwest Festival, where Markle seemed to lose her audience’s attention.
During the panel, Katie Couric posed a question about gender equality, which Markle answered by recounting a story from her childhood about advocating for women. She mentioned how, at just 11 years old, she took action after seeing a commercial implying that only women wash dishes. Shields, however, felt the story was overly serious for the setting.
Shields recalled, "I just wanted to give everybody context as to how we’re different. When I was 11, I was playing a prostitute." This remark lightened the mood and drew laughter from the audience.
Shields has also discussed her experience as a child star in Hollywood, reflecting on the challenges of being sexualized at a young age. She gained fame in the 1978 film "Pretty Baby," where she played a child prostitute, which involved several nude scenes. Despite this, she credited her strong family background for keeping her grounded.
"I was surrounded by a very strong mom and stayed in regular school," Shields explained. She acknowledged the difficult atmosphere of Hollywood but expressed gratitude for her protective support system, allowing her to avoid the pitfalls many child stars face.
Overall, Shields emphasizes the importance of community and support amid the challenging environment of the entertainment industry.
