The Denver Broncos edged out a narrow victory against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, with a final score of 27-26 after a thrilling overtime. The game, filled with impressive plays from both sides, kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
The Broncos started the overtime period strong. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on four passes, one a significant 41-yard completion to Evan Engram, quickly advancing the ball down the field. Running back RJ Harvey then capped off the drive with a five-yard touchdown run, giving the Broncos a 27-20 lead.
However, the Commanders weren’t ready to concede. Quarterback Marcus Mariota, known for his late-game heroics, orchestrated a drive that brought his team within one point. A crucial 38-yard pass to Deebo Samuel on 3rd-and-14 kept the drive alive, and a subsequent connection with Terry McLaurin set the stage for a potential game-winning play.
With the score at 27-26, the Commanders opted to go for a two-point conversion instead of kicking the extra point, seeking an outright win. Mariota dropped back to pass, but his attempt to find Jeremy McNichols was thwarted by Broncos pass rusher Nik Bonitto, who managed to block the pass, securing the victory for Denver.
Bo Nix had a strong performance, completing 29 of 45 passes for 321 yards and one touchdown. RJ Harvey contributed significantly on the ground, rushing for 35 yards and two touchdowns.
Earlier in the game, Nix showcased his athleticism and determination when he threw a touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton while falling to the ground, avoiding the pass rush.
On the Commanders’ side, wide receiver Treylon Burks made an outstanding one-handed catch in the end zone for a touchdown, a play that briefly put his team ahead. Mariota also connected with tight end Zach Ertz on a high pass in a critical moment, keeping a drive alive late in the game.
Linebacker Alex Singleton of the Broncos, playing his first game after recovering from surgery, made a key play by breaking up a pass intended for Zach Ertz.
Marcus Mariota displayed resilience and skill throughout the game, completing 28 of 50 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 55 rushing yards to his performance. Zach Ertz led the Commanders in receiving with 10 catches for 106 yards, while Terry McLaurin added seven catches for 96 yards.
With this win, the Denver Broncos improved their record to 10-2, extending their winning streak to nine games. The Washington Commanders, on the other hand, fell to 3-9 after the narrow defeat.
