Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers Unite to Save Woman in Crisis
Sullivan County, TN – In a display of courage and community spirit, Tennessee Highway Patrol officers, along with multiple agencies, intervened on Friday to help a woman in distress on a bridge overlooking the Holston River. The incident occurred along Interstate 81, where the woman was reportedly considering taking her own life.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol, in a statement released on social media, highlighted the collaborative effort that led to the successful rescue. “Because people showed up and worked together, she is alive tonight,” the agency stated, emphasizing the importance of unity in times of crisis.
Responding to the call were seven Tennessee Highway Patrol units, along with units from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office and the Kingsport Police Department. Sullivan County EMS, two Tennessee Department of Transportation units, and teams from Tennessee State Parks and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) also joined the effort. A TWRA agent positioned a boat below the bridge as a precautionary measure.
The video footage shows officers engaging with the woman, attempting to calm her and de-escalate the situation. Moments later, one of the officers approached her from behind and safely pulled her away from the edge of the bridge. The woman was then transported by ambulance to a medical facility for evaluation and care. Her name was not released.
“Different agencies, one mission. Save a life. And they did,” the Tennessee Highway Patrol stated. “This time of year can be especially hard. Many people are carrying things no one else can see. Stress, grief, loneliness, and fear can pile up fast. That does not mean someone is weak. It means they are human. If you are struggling, please hear this. You matter, and help is available.”
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and the role of law enforcement in protecting the vulnerable. The swift and coordinated response of the various agencies involved highlights the dedication of these individuals to serving and safeguarding the citizens of Tennessee.
