Russell Brand Faces More Serious Allegations
Comedian Russell Brand is now facing additional charges in the United Kingdom. These charges include one count of rape and one count of sexual assault against two women. Police reports indicate the alleged incidents happened in 2009.
Brand was already facing five counts of rape and sexual assault from earlier charges in April. These original charges involve incidents between 1999 and 2005, reported by four different women.
Brand has denied any wrongdoing. In the past, he has stated that while he lived a promiscuous lifestyle, all encounters were consensual.
Brand has expressed gratitude for the opportunity to clear his name and ensure people understand “the truth of my situation.” He also offered prayers for those he may have hurt in the past.
Detectives started looking into Brand after U.K. media outlets Channel 4 and The Sunday Times made allegations public in September 2023. Brand is expected in court soon regarding the new charges, and a trial is scheduled for June of next year, expected to last several weeks.
