Bowen Yang recently shared insights about the upcoming film Wicked: For Good, which is part two of the beloved Wicked saga. In an exclusive interview, Yang, who also stars in the new romantic comedy The Wedding Banquet, hinted that audiences will be pleased with the emotional ballad “For Good.”
He compared the anticipation surrounding this song to the excitement for the famous number “Defying Gravity.” Yang expressed his belief that “For Good” will not only meet fan expectations but might also surprise them in ways they didn’t see coming.
The Wicked musical serves as a pre-story to The Wizard of Oz, focusing on the lives of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, portrayed by Cynthia Erivo, and Glinda, the Good Witch, played by Ariana Grande. Yang takes on the role of Pfannee, who is Glinda’s close friend at Shiz University.
In the first film, audiences will witness the contrasting personalities of Elphaba and Glinda as they evolve from roommates to friends. The powerful song “Defying Gravity” marks a pivotal moment in the story, showcasing Elphaba’s struggle against being misjudged and the paths the two characters ultimately take.
The second film features “For Good,” a heartfelt duet that delves into the significance of friendship. Although Yang remains tight-lipped about further details, he expressed his enthusiasm about rejoining the cast for promotional events. He recalled the first promotional tour, noting how exceptional and enjoyable it was.
Yang emphasized the importance of making a splash with major films like this, stating that it adds to the overall excitement of the experience.
While Wicked: For Good is set to hit theaters in November, fans can currently catch Yang in The Wedding Banquet, a contemporary remake of a classic romantic comedy from 1993, which is now showing nationwide.
