Border Security Upgrades Continue with New Tech and Construction
The United States is moving forward with plans to strengthen security along the border with Mexico, using advanced technology and new construction. These efforts aim to give our border agents the tools they need to keep our country safe and enforce our immigration laws.
The focus is on building a “Smart Wall” that combines a physical barrier with modern technology. This includes things like cameras, detection systems, and lighting, all designed to stop illegal crossings and other criminal activity.
New contracts have been awarded to build additional sections of the wall in Texas and Arizona. These projects will add 97 miles of primary border wall, 19 miles of secondary barrier, and 66 miles of waterborne barrier systems. The investment also includes adding detection technology to 149 miles of existing border structures.
Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott stated that securing the border is vital for national security, community safety, and a functional immigration system. He emphasized that a Smart Wall is an important tool in stopping illegal activity and supporting agents in their mission to protect America.
These upgrades reflect a commitment to border security and are funded by Republican-backed spending measures.
