New Border Official Meets with Minnesota Leaders After Recent Events
Following recent incidents in Minneapolis, Tom Homan, a leading figure in border security, met with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey on Tuesday. The meetings follow President Trump’s decision to have Homan take a leading role in federal operations in Minnesota.
Homan shared on social media that the discussions focused on supporting law enforcement and removing criminals from the streets. He emphasized that while not everyone agreed on every point, the meetings were a positive first step.
President Trump has made it clear that he wants American cities to be safe for those who follow the law.
Governor Walz stated that he stressed the need for fair investigations into the recent shootings involving federal agents. He also expressed his desire for fewer federal agents in Minnesota. Walz’s office said they agreed to keep talking and work together toward these goals.
Mayor Frey said he had a “productive conversation” with Homan. He said he wants Operation Metro Surge to end quickly, arguing that public safety is best when built on community trust.
A White House official stated that the administration is not “backing down” on its commitment to enforce immigration laws.
President Trump mentioned that Governor Walz is open to deporting criminals in their custody.
Mayor Frey said that Minneapolis will work with law enforcement on criminal investigations but will not participate in enforcing federal immigration law.
