Figure skating star Surya Bonaly says her medals were stolen from her home in Las Vegas.
Bonaly, who is 51 years old and from France, shared on social media that her medals from past competitions are missing. She said her house was broken into, and her valuables were taken. She is asking people in Las Vegas to call the police if they see any foreign gold or silver medals for sale.
At the time of the break-in, Bonaly was in Minnesota. She was helping her mother, who is fighting cancer.
Bonaly, who went to three Winter Olympics and now works as a trainer, is also getting treatment for breast cancer.
She has reported the theft to the police.
According to local news, Bonaly said that thieves broke into her home for four days in a row. She came back to find her door open and her house in a mess.
Security cameras showed people going to Bonaly’s house, broken windows, and cameras that had been removed.
On the first day, a person in a black hoodie was seen with a woman wearing something that looked like a delivery uniform. Bonaly found a similar uniform near her house.
Bonaly believes the theft was planned by a group of people.
She said she is upset that her medals are gone, including those from European and world championships.
Bonaly said the theft makes her feel angry and sad. She hopes that her medals will be found and not melted down.
The police are still investigating the case.
