Bobby Berk Reflects on His Journey with Queer Eye
Bobby Berk, a well-known interior designer and a prominent figure from "Queer Eye," recently opened up about his experiences on the show during an appearance on the "Networth and Chill" podcast. He shared insightful details regarding the challenges he faced while being part of the Emmy-winning series.
Berk, who has been with "Queer Eye" since its revival, revealed that the first two seasons were especially tough financially. "I definitely lost money being on the show," he explained, noting that the cast was not compensated well at the beginning. He mentioned that his pay was minimal, making it difficult to balance the show with his own business.
Despite these hurdles, Berk noted that things began to improve in seasons three and four when he finally started to break even. "To be frank, they never really paid us well," he said, pointing out that reality stars typically earn much less compared to actors in scripted shows.
He also acknowledged that fan reactions could be mixed during his time on the show, especially regarding brand promotions and partnerships. Some viewers expressed frustration with the frequency of these promotions. However, Berk emphasized that these partnerships were crucial for the cast, as the show’s earnings weren’t enough to sustain them.
"How do you think we continue to do the show?" he asked, highlighting the necessity of these brand deals. Yet, he was quick to affirm that the exposure from "Queer Eye" was invaluable. "It opened doors for many opportunities," he remarked.
Reflecting on the cultural impact of the show, Berk noted that it emerged during a politically charged time in America, underlining how they, as a group, managed to bring people together, irrespective of their backgrounds.
“Overall, I never regretted doing it," Berk concluded, expressing pride in the show’s legacy and its positive influence on society.
