Billy Joel Cancels Upcoming Concerts Due to Health Concerns
Billy Joel is stepping back from his concert schedule due to health issues. On May 23, the beloved "Piano Man" announced that he is canceling all upcoming performances after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a medical condition that affects hearing, vision, and balance.
This diagnosis comes on the heels of a recent fall he sustained during a concert performance in February. Since then, the challenges posed by NPH have made it difficult for him to continue performing. Joel stated, "I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding."
The 76-year-old musician is currently undergoing physical therapy as directed by his doctors and has been advised against performing during this recovery period. Joel expressed gratitude for the excellent care he is receiving and is focusing on getting better.
Fans who purchased tickets for the canceled shows will automatically receive refunds without needing to take any action. Concert dates affected include performances in New York City, New Orleans, Toronto, Santa Clara, Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C., and Liverpool.
Joel’s team has reassured fans that he is expected to make a full recovery, with plans to return to the stage at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on July 5, 2025. The "Big Shot" singer has emphasized that while he regrets postponing shows, his health must be the priority, adding, "I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans."
With a career spanning decades, Billy Joel has won five Grammy Awards, sold over 150 million records, and has been inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His last performance at Madison Square Garden was in July 2024, marking an impressive milestone in his legendary career.
