Billy Gardell, the actor known for his role in “Mike & Molly,” is sharing his personal story about making a big change for his health. For years, Gardell used food as a way to cope with his emotions, both good and bad. He realized that this habit was hurting him.
Gardell explained that he would eat to deal with feelings of fear or to celebrate successes. He recognized that this pattern was unhealthy. As he got older, his weight made it hard for him to even stand.
By 2020, Gardell weighed 370 pounds and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He also had other health issues that put him at high risk during the pandemic. This was a wake-up call for him.
In 2021, Gardell decided to have bariatric surgery. He saw it as a necessary step to improve his health.
Gardell now sees food differently. He understands that food is meant to fuel the body, not to be an emotional crutch. He emphasizes the importance of understanding your relationship with food and learning to love yourself enough to make positive changes.
Today, Gardell stays in shape by exercising and eating a balanced diet. He’s now between 210 and 215 pounds, which he feels is a good weight for him. His diabetes is gone, and he feels healthier and more energetic. He believes that losing weight saved his life.
