Investigation into Biden’s Autopen Use Underway
The White House is currently examining former President Joe Biden’s use of the autopen for signing documents, according to administration officials. This investigation involves reviewing thousands of documents provided by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
The White House Counsel’s Office is leading the investigation and is working closely with the Justice Department. Officials emphasize that they are focusing on communications related to Biden’s autopen use, with NARA reportedly supplying over 27,000 records to date.
Karoline Leavitt, the press secretary, criticized Biden, stating, “Joe Biden was the most incompetent president in our history. It’s alarming that he surrendered presidential powers to an autopen operated by unelected staff, leading to decisions that harmed our country.” She added that the Trump White House is committed to uncovering the truth behind the Biden administration’s operations.
The review will examine over a million documents related to Biden’s presidency and the use of the autopen, aiming for transparency regarding the former president’s health and decision-making capabilities. Officials are also investigating if proper safeguards were in place for the autopen’s use.
A key question remains: Did Biden allow his authority to be compromised by not personally approving significant actions, leaving it to a machine and staffers? Officials stress that a president’s signature holds significant weight, and any use of an autopen should directly reflect the president’s intent.
Biden defended his actions in a recent interview, claiming he made all significant decisions himself. However, reports suggest he did not individually approve every name for his clemency actions, which included pardons for various individuals, including family members.
Moreover, congressional committees, including the House Oversight Committee, are conducting their investigations into Biden’s use of the autopen and his overall health during his presidency. The White House Counsel’s investigation and the congressional inquiry are said to be separate but are both aiming to clarify the issue.
Officials involved have labeled the investigation a significant effort, underscoring the importance of disclosing information about Biden’s health and the authenticity of the signatures on critical documents. As this situation unfolds, it’s clear that the question of presidential authority and decision-making is increasingly vital to the American public.
