Biden Faces Challenges in Campaign as Concerns Grow Over Health
During the 2024 campaign, former President Joe Biden’s health has raised eyebrows, leading to difficulties in producing campaign videos and addresses, as detailed in a recently published book.
The book, titled Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again, highlights significant struggles Biden encountered while filming. It was noted that some footage turned out so poorly that it was labeled "unusable." Authored by journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson, the book paints a concerning picture of Biden’s capacity during the election cycle.
For example, when attempting to create a campaign video in a high school gym, Biden’s team aimed for the feel of a town hall meeting. However, instead of genuine public interaction, the event was closed to reporters and only pre-approved questions were used. Unfortunately, Biden had considerable trouble delivering responses, leading to the footage being scrapped.
The challenges continued when Biden was asked to participate in brief video addresses for various events. Despite the requests for five-minute videos, the White House managed to produce one or two-minute clips, often due to Biden’s difficulty in delivering even those segments smoothly. One source cited Biden’s struggles with finding words and staying focused during his speaking.
In an attempt to manage the situation, aides sometimes edited videos to improve Biden’s presentation, even using slow-motion editing to obscure his slower movements.
The book also suggests that Biden’s extended presence in the race may have hindered then-Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, which was described as "a nightmare" due to his delay in stepping aside.
Despite these claims, some former Biden staffers have refuted the assertions made in the book, labeling it full of inaccuracies. In defense of the former president, a spokesperson for Biden remarked that the book does not prove any failure on his part to perform his duties effectively, defending Biden’s leadership as compassionate and skilled.
As concerns about Biden’s fitness for office continue to surface, the conversation around his reelection remains a contentious topic among both supporters and skeptics.
