The trial has started for a man accused of killing a 24-year-old woman. The woman was found buried in the sand on a beach in Australia back in 2018.
In October 2018, Toyah Cordingley, was found dead on Wangetti Beach. She had been missing after going for a walk with her dog the day before.
Her father, Troy Cordingley, discovered her body while searching for her. He noticed a strange mound of sand.
He said he kneeled down and dug in the sand. On the third scoop, he found her foot. He was shocked and called for help.
Toyah worked at a health food store. The jury was told that she had a very deep cut on her neck, about 17 centimeters long. She also had injuries on her stomach, chest, and fingers.
The prosecutor said that Toyah might have been buried alive. He believes she was buried either right before or right after she died.
Rajwinder Singh, 40, a nurse, has been charged with Toyah’s murder. He has said that he is not guilty.
The first trial ended without a decision because the jury could not agree.
Recently, the jury, judge, and lawyers visited the beach where Toyah was killed. They walked almost 2.5 miles to the place where her body was found.
The prosecutor said that after the murder, Singh took Toyah’s phone and other things. He then drove near some water to throw them away.
Toyah’s phone was detected in places far from the beach after she died, according to the prosecutor.
Traffic cameras showed a blue car, like Singh’s, driving in the area where Toyah’s phone was detected.
After Toyah’s body was found, Singh left Australia. He quit his job and stopped paying his house mortgage, the prosecutor said.
Toyah’s mother found her dog, Indie, tied to a tree near where her body was discovered.
