A North Carolina woman is in trouble with the law after police say she was driving way too fast in snowy conditions with a young child in the car.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy stopped a car on Saturday after it was clocked going 103 mph on Highway 70 near Princeton. That’s about 40 miles from Raleigh.
Deputies discovered a one-year-old baby was in the car, not properly secured in a child seat.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Kierra Taylor from Goldsboro, N.C., was arrested. The speed limit in that area is 55 mph.
Reports indicate Taylor’s blood alcohol content was very high during a roadside test.
Other family members came to pick up the baby.
Taylor is facing charges including driving under the influence, speeding, reckless driving, and child abuse.
She was taken to the Johnston County Detention Center and is being held on a $2,500 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone to be careful and slow down during the winter weather. They suggest staying home if possible.
North Carolina experienced a lot of snow, with some areas getting over 20 inches.
Many people in the South lost power due to the storm.
The Governor of North Carolina, Josh Stein, said there were over 1,000 car accidents and two deaths in the state because of the weather. Officials are telling people to avoid driving if they can.
