A baby in Florida is in the hospital after a scary incident. The 5-month-old has a broken skull and bruises after a woman allegedly hit the child.
Police say it happened on Thursday when officers got a call about a baby with serious injuries. The baby was taken to a nearby hospital.
An investigation showed the baby’s injuries, like the broken skull and bruises on the arm and leg, happened during a fight.
Cops say Georgeina Hayes, who is 38 years old, and another woman were fighting. Hayes allegedly tried to choke the other woman, but she got away. The woman grabbed the baby and ran to a bedroom to protect herself.
As the woman tried to close the door, Hayes started punching, and some of those punches hit the baby, causing the injuries.
Hayes was arrested and is now in jail. She’s charged with hurting a child and strangling someone. Her bond is set at $55,000. It’s not clear if she has a lawyer yet.
The baby’s condition is unknown. It’s also not clear how Hayes and the other woman are related to the baby.
Police thanked the Fort Pierce Police Department for their help and said they are dedicated to getting justice for the most vulnerable people in the community.
