Mother Sentenced for Endangering Her Children with Marijuana
A judge in Arkansas has sentenced a mother, Deanna Sue Woods, to 120 days in jail after she confessed to giving her three children marijuana.
Woods, 36, was arrested in January after a worker from the Department of Human Services learned from her 6-year-old daughter that the mother had allowed her children to consume marijuana and THC edibles. Following this, the child was tested and found to have THC in their system, prompting the Department to alert the Brookland Police.
The next day, Woods was taken into custody by Detective Dustin Norwood, who stated in an affidavit that Woods admitted to giving her children—aged 6, 10, and 15—honey and chocolate infused with THC. She also reportedly allowed her younger children to use her vape pen.
In addition, Woods claimed to have smoked marijuana around her 1-year-old and even used the substance while breastfeeding. She stated that her actions were intended to discourage her children from using drugs.
After being charged with multiple counts of endangering a minor and introducing a controlled substance to another person, Woods spent 60 days in jail before posting bail. She recently accepted a guilty plea during a hearing on June 25, which led to her current sentence. Along with her jail time, Woods will be required to attend parenting and substance abuse classes. She will also have restricted contact with her children, needing approval from their guardian and the Department of Human Services.
