A woman named Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agent in Minneapolis. A person who saw what happened, Venus DeMars, said that after the shooting, ICE agents kept people away who wanted to help Good by showing their weapons.
DeMars said the situation was very tense, with many ICE vehicles and frustrated people watching on January 7th.
She explained that people were angry because ICE agents wouldn’t let anyone help Good, and some people tried to approach the agents to show their frustration.
DeMars arrived after the shooting and saw EMTs giving CPR to Good. She said it took about 15 minutes for an ambulance to get through the crowd.
DeMars said she knew Good was dead because the EMTs were doing CPR instead of trying to stop any bleeding. She also knew because the ambulance left without using its siren.
Renee Nicole Good was 37 years old and had three children. She was shot after a group of people supposedly blocked officials during an immigration operation.
The Department of Homeland Security claimed Good used her vehicle as a weapon in an act of “domestic terrorism.” However, officials in Minnesota, including the mayor of Minneapolis, disagree with this claim.
The ICE agent who shot Good has been identified as Jonathan Ross. It’s not clear if he will face any charges, and an investigation is underway.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that the agent was treated at a hospital and released. Videos taken by people nearby showed the agent walking around after the shooting before leaving in a car.
