Paul Burrell, who used to work for Princess Diana, has shared his thoughts on Prince Andrew, saying he saw the prince’s “pompous” and “entitled” behavior firsthand. This comes as more reports surface that palace staff are refusing to work for the former royal.
Burrell, who also worked as a footman for Queen Elizabeth II, recently released a book called “The Royal Insider.” In it, he talks about his time working for the royal family and what he saw behind the scenes.
He told Fox News Digital that he witnessed Prince Andrew, often called “Randy Andy,” acting badly. He said Prince Andrew was known to be the late Queen’s favorite.
“I had lots of interactions with Andrew over the years,” Burrell said. “I saw his pompousness firsthand. He would tell people to ‘F off, get out of here, F off,’ which was obscene, really — the way he treated people.”
Burrell also mentioned that staff members often complained because they had to stay up late. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, his ex-wife, would host dinner parties in their rooms at Buckingham Palace. They would use the Queen’s staff and chefs to prepare fancy meals for their guests, as if they were in a restaurant.
“The queen got wind of it,” Burrell said. “She heard about it. The staff would be up until midnight cooking, serving and waiting on them. And she said, ‘This must stop. These are my staff. They’re not yours, Andrew, and you must treat them with respect. They’re here to look after us. It’s their duty to look after us, and we must appreciate that.’”
Burrell added that even though the Queen told him off, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson continued to “abuse the system,” staying in bed late and not letting the maids clean their rooms.
These statements from Burrell come after reports that many staff members are refusing to work for Prince Andrew at his new home.
One source told The Sun that staff members have been told they don’t have to work for Prince Andrew if they feel uncomfortable. “There’s already quite a list saying ‘no, thanks.’ There’s understandably a lot of disquiet, as he is now viewed as a total pariah.”
Hilary Fordwich, a British royal expert, told Fox News Digital that many staff members find Prince Andrew “creepy” or “disgusting.”
“This is literally a mutiny by staff who are extremely uncomfortable not only serving Andrew — given his scandalous behavior — but also because of the ghastly manner in which he treats staff and anyone he deems beneath him, which ostensibly amounts to everyone,” Fordwich said.
Prince Andrew was stripped of his royal titles and honors by King Charles III in October 2025. He is now known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
Burrell’s book also claims that Prince Andrew was very much in love with Sarah Ferguson when they were married, and the kitchen staff was always busy serving them. The couple would host lavish parties and sometimes stay in bed for days.
He also wrote that Prince Andrew was “inconsiderate and rude” and that he kept a photograph of his collection of soft toys so the maids would know how to arrange them on his bed.
Burrell told Fox News Digital that Prince Andrew was “always greedy” and “wanted more” because he believed he was “indestructible.”
“He was always entitled — always — because he had his mother’s protection,” Burrell said. “Maybe our dear late queen was to blame for that because she never said no to her favorite son, Andrew. I think the reason for that is that by the time Andrew came along, she finally had time to be a mother. She was never a mother to Charles and Princess Anne — she was queen first. But she doted on Andrew.”
Burrell said that after Prince Philip died in 2021, Prince Andrew was always by the Queen’s side.
He believes that the Queen was aware of Prince Andrew’s character but still protected him.
Burrell also believes that Sarah Ferguson became “spoiled” and “entitled” because Prince Andrew always gave her everything she wanted.
Prince Andrew stepped back as a senior royal in 2019 after an interview about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. In January, more than 3 million pages of documents related to Epstein were released, including emails and photos of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
Burrell believes that King Charles now has the responsibility of controlling Prince Andrew’s actions.
“I think we should all remember that Andrew isn’t guilty of any crime,” Burrell said. “Accusations, yes. But we have also forgotten about the victims in this Epstein scandal, and they should be taken care of first. Andrew’s life and career are finished, as are Sarah Ferguson’s. … I truly believe we all have to pay for our sins — and Andrew and Sarah must pay for theirs.”
