King Charles Takes Action: Prince Andrew Stripped of Remaining Royal Titles
King Charles III has removed his brother, Prince Andrew, from his last remaining royal positions. These include his membership in the Order of the Garter and his role as a Knight of the Grand Cross of the Royal Victoria Order.
The official announcement was made public this week.
The move signifies a firm stance from King Charles regarding the conduct of the royal family. One royal expert noted that such decisive action, though preferable sooner, is still a positive step.
The official record stated that Andrew’s appointment to the Order of the Garter, dating back to 2006, is now cancelled and his name removed from the registry. A similar action was taken regarding his Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order title, which he received in 2011.
Back in October, the palace initially announced that Andrew would lose his title, due to allegations surrounding his connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
Now, Andrew is to be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, and no longer carries the title of “Prince”.
The palace emphasized that these actions are taken despite Andrew’s continued denial of the allegations against him. They also stated their sympathy lies with the victims of abuse.
Some believe King Charles kept Andrew close to avoid any scandals. Royal commentator Meredith Constant noted the timing of the announcement as beneficial, given other issues within the royal family. She believes it makes King Charles appear strong.
