GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office has decided to settle a wrongful death lawsuit that arose from a traffic stop incident in 2021.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Robert Allen Maness was riding his motorcycle when he was stopped along Airline Road on October 14, 2021. Reports indicate that during the traffic stop, Maness fired several shots at the deputies, who then returned fire. Unfortunately, Maness was shot and died at the scene, while the deputies remained unharmed.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Maness’s estate against the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. It sought compensation for injuries resulting from the incident, covering past medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages under South Carolina’s Wrongful Death Statute.
As part of the settlement reached on November 13, 2024, the defendants agreed to pay $50,000.
