Alaska Airlines has resumed its operations after overcoming a technical glitch that halted its services for about three hours. The airline reported that an IT outage caused a temporary, system-wide ground stop for both Alaska Airlines and its subsidiary, Horizon Air, beginning around 8 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday. Services were restored by 11 p.m., according to a social media update from the Seattle-based airline.
As the airline began to reposition its aircraft and crews, it warned travelers of potential delays and disruptions as they worked to return to normal operations.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the ground stop, which affected all mainline and Horizon flights. This recent incident follows prior technical issues Alaska Airlines faced in September, where a brief grounding also occurred due to unspecified technology problems that were resolved quickly.
It’s worth noting that just last month, the National Transportation Board praised the crew of Alaska Airlines flight 1282 for their effective response during an emergency that occurred shortly after takeoff, highlighting their dedication to passenger safety.
