An Oklahoma mother’s tragic death during a sledding accident has led to murder charges against two men.
Makayla Mitchell, 31, was sledding on January 25 when the sled she was riding, being pulled by a car, came to a stop on the road after the rope broke. Another car then hit Mitchell, and she died at the scene.
Police say the drivers of both cars showed signs of being impaired. Blood tests were taken, and both men were arrested.
Angel Walzier, 22, was driving the first car, and James Kirk, 24, was driving the car that hit Mitchell. Both men are now charged with second-degree murder and aggravated DUI. Walzier is being held on a $5 million bail. It is not yet known if they have lawyers.
Friends and family have created an online fundraiser to help with funeral costs and support Mitchell’s daughter. They remember her as a loving person whose life was taken too soon.
