Russia and Ukraine Meet for Talks in Abu Dhabi Amid Ongoing Conflict
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – Representatives from Russia and Ukraine convened in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday for another round of discussions aimed at finding a resolution to the conflict. The talks, facilitated by the United States, seek to address the issues that have fueled tensions between the two nations.
Rustem Umerov, a high-ranking Ukrainian official, confirmed the meeting via social media, noting the presence of U.S. officials alongside the Russian and Ukrainian delegations. The negotiations were scheduled to span two days, with initial discussions involving all three parties, followed by smaller group sessions focusing on specific areas of disagreement.
The American team reportedly included Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, both of whom participated in similar talks last month. Those earlier discussions, while productive, did not result in a major breakthrough.
These talks occur as concerns rise over the Russia and United States and the last nuclear arms pact, which may or may not be extended in its current form.
The Abu Dhabi talks take place against a backdrop of ongoing conflict, with reports of recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Russia claims these attacks target facilities linked to Ukraine’s military efforts.
Despite the challenges, Russia has indicated that the “doors for a peaceful settlement are open,” while maintaining its position that military action will continue until its demands are met.
Recent reports suggest conflicting accounts regarding a pause in Russian strikes on Ukraine’s power grid. While some claim an agreement was reached, Ukrainian officials point to continued attacks, accusing Russia of not honoring its commitments.
Meanwhile, Russia launched overnight attacks, with Ukrainian air defenses intercepting a majority of them. Tragically, strikes in the Dnipropetrovsk region resulted in casualties, while the city of Odesa also sustained damage.
