Former NFL Player Antonio Brown Faces Justice in Florida
Antonio Brown, the former football star, is heading back to Miami after agreeing not to fight his return from a New Jersey jail. He faces serious charges in Florida, including attempted murder.
Brown, age 37, was arrested in Dubai and then brought to a jail in New Jersey. He decided in court that he would go back to Florida to deal with the charges against him.
The charges stem from an incident after a boxing match in May. Brown is accused of taking a gun from a security guard and firing shots at a man he had been fighting with. The man claims one of the bullets grazed his neck. Video from social media seems to show Brown with a gun.
Initially, Brown was not arrested because the man was not identified as a victim right away. The man later gave a full statement to the police, identifying Brown as the shooter.
Brown had been living in Dubai for some time. It’s not clear why it took so long to arrest him or why he was taken to New Jersey first.
Brown claimed he was defending himself from people who were trying to steal from him.
Attempted murder in Florida can mean up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Brown played in the NFL for 12 years, mostly with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was known as a great wide receiver. He later played for Tampa Bay, even winning a Super Bowl with them.
Brown has had other legal problems in the past, including accusations of violence and not paying child support. His career ended after an incident where he took off his uniform and walked off the field during a game.
