Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has taken legal action against lawyer Tony Buzbee in a Los Angeles court. Buzbee is representing a woman who claims that both Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs raped her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000 when she was just 13 years old.
In his lawsuit, Jay-Z accuses Buzbee of defamation and what he describes as “naked extortion.” He claims that Buzbee had previously sent him false allegations related to sexual abuse along with demands for payment.
According to the complaint, Jay-Z highlights Buzbee’s earlier threats to make criminal complaints against numerous celebrities, implying that the message he received was clear: pay up or face serious legal trouble and damage to his reputation.
The amended complaint, filed on December 20, suggests that Buzbee and his law firm offered Jay-Z a two-week timeframe to consider private mediation regarding the matter. Additionally, the lawsuit claims that Buzbee has publicly made false statements about Jay-Z over the last few months.
Jay-Z’s complaint refers to Buzbee’s statements made on various media platforms, where he allegedly claimed to have a list of celebrities accused of serious misconduct, including Jay-Z, whom he accused of criminal sexual assault.
The woman making the allegations against Jay-Z filed her complaint under the pseudonym Jane Doe, stating that she was assaulted by both Jay-Z and Combs in the presence of an unnamed female star.
Jay-Z has denied these allegations, expressing his frustrations in a statement on social media directed at Buzbee. He asserted, “I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!”
Meanwhile, Sean Combs is currently incarcerated as he faces a trial on federal sex crime charges. He has also denied the allegations against him, as more lawsuits emerge.
As of now, a representative for Buzbee has not responded to requests for comment. Buzbee has previously stated that he is representing numerous clients who accuse Combs of sexual abuse, including a man claiming to have been abused at the age of nine during an audition in New York City.
