Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, announced on Saturday that she will no longer pursue the opportunity to take over Senator Marco Rubio’s seat in the U.S. Senate. In a message posted on X, she explained that this decision came after much thought and encouragement from supporters.
Lara expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received as she stepped down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee earlier this month. She highlighted her honor in serving during a crucial election year and stated her passion for public service will continue.
“I have a significant announcement that I’m excited to share in January,” she mentioned, while also wishing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis the best as he makes the upcoming appointment for Rubio’s replacement.
The seat left vacant by Rubio, who has been nominated to serve as Secretary of State, will be filled by DeSantis and is set to serve the remaining two years of Rubio’s term. A full six-year term for this position will occur in 2026.
While Lara Trump previously stated she was seriously considering the Senate seat, she ultimately felt it might not be the right fit for her at this time. She remains dedicated to finding ways to serve her country in the future.
