Incoming border czar Tom Homan recently met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams to discuss the city’s migrant crisis and plans to deport illegal immigrants with the support of local law enforcement. Homan, who previously led Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during President Donald Trump’s administration, is now stepping into his role at a critical time.
Homan expressed optimism following their meeting, stating, “It went great. The mayor understands the importance of public safety and is willing to put politics aside.” He commended Adams for his commitment to working with ICE to address safety concerns, especially regarding criminal threats in the city.
During their detailed conversation, Homan noted Adams’ genuine interest in public safety and his readiness to collaborate with ICE on various issues, including finding missing children and removing dangerous individuals from the streets. Homan remarked, “Hats off to the mayor for coming to the table and working with us.”
Homan mentioned that since the meeting, he has received outreach from other mayors who are interested in similar cooperation, suggesting that Adams’ leadership could inspire others to prioritize public safety over political divides. He emphasized the importance of having law enforcement, like the NYPD, assist in locating and apprehending illegal immigrants, stating, “The NYPD has one of the best intelligence systems in the world, and we will rely on them for information.”
As New York City grapples with the challenges posed by a significant number of illegal immigrants—reportedly around 60,000 deemed “criminal”—Homan pointed out the need for action to protect the community. He expressed hope for the city to take significant steps towards improving safety, asserting, “New York City is about to send a strong message that we are taking the right steps to ensure public safety.”
Following their discussions, Homan feels optimistic that the efforts will make New York City safer and more secure for its residents. He indicated that they would continue to engage in talks to address the pressing concerns surrounding illegal immigration and criminal activity.
