Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, had a strong message for potential burglars during a press conference this past Wednesday. With a string of recent home break-ins targeting NFL players, Tagovailoa warned criminals to think twice before trying to rob his home, emphasizing that his personal security team is armed.
At 26 years old, Tagovailoa shared his concerns after being questioned about the burglaries that have recently plagued several NFL stars. Notably, Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce experienced burglaries just days apart while they were preoccupied with games. Just this past weekend, Joe Burrow, quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, fell victim to a burglary while he was in Texas for a match against the Cowboys.
The situation has gotten serious enough that the NFL issued a warning to its players about a possible organized crime ring actively seeking out players’ homes while they are away at games.
In light of these dangers, Tagovailoa decided to enhance his home security after experiencing a break-in involving his vehicle. He expressed his discomfort with the situation, especially concerning his family’s safety. He explained to reporters that his family is protected, stating, “We got personal security to take care of all of that when we’re on the road. We got someone with my wife, and someone also at the house, surveying the house. They are armed, so I hope if you decide to go to my house, you think twice.”
Many athletes are finding themselves in similar situations. Burrow shared that the recent burglary left him feeling like his privacy had been deeply invaded. Other athletes outside of the NFL have reported similar experiences. For example, Bobby Portis of the Milwaukee Bucks recently revealed that his home was broken into while he played a game.
As athletes face these unsettling events, their emphasis on security reflects a growing concern for personal safety and the protection of their loved ones.
