Six students from Rutgers University and one recent graduate have been charged for allegedly running a drug trafficking operation that targeted fellow students. Authorities claim that the group utilized a private social media network to sell various narcotics.
The primary suspect, Anudeep Revuri, a 23-year-old alumnus from New Brunswick, is said to have created the closed online platform that facilitated these activities. According to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, this network allowed users to post lists of available drugs, making it easy for buyers within the university community to connect with sellers.
Prosecutors reported that a range of illegal substances was confiscated during the investigation, including marijuana, LSD, cocaine, and prescription drugs like Adderall and Xanax. Law enforcement also seized a firearm and a significant amount of cash.
Revuri faces serious charges, including leading a drug trafficking organization and conspiracy to distribute drugs. His alleged co-conspirators include students Joshua Duffy, Noa Lisimachio, Zachary Petersen, Donovin Williams, and Catherine Tierney, all of whom are facing charges related to drug possession, distribution, and money laundering.
One of the students, Donovin Williams, was specifically charged with selling drugs within a school zone, bringing additional legal trouble.
Authorities have reported that all communications conducted through this network were exclusive to Rutgers students and alumni. Revuri’s attorney, Jason Seidman, insists that his client only set up a chat room that others exploited for illegal sales. He maintains that Revuri will prove his innocence in court.
As of now, Rutgers University has not issued any public statement regarding the arrests. This shocking incident raises concerns not only about campus safety but also about the ease with which illegal activities can infiltrate educational environments.
