A tragic incident occurred in midtown Manhattan involving Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Reports indicate that Thompson, 50, was separated from his wife, Paulette, 51, at the time of his death. The couple had been living in different homes in Maple Grove, Minnesota, for several years, according to the Wall Street Journal.
In 2018, Thompson purchased a second home for $1 million near where his wife and their two sons were living. He was shot early on the morning of December 4 as he was on his way to an investor conference at the New York Hilton Midtown.
Surveillance footage captured the moment when the assailant approached Thompson from behind, shooting him and then firing again while he lay on the ground. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly afterward. The shooter escaped the scene on an electric Citi Bike, and the police are actively trying to locate him.
Paulette Thompson informed NBC News that her husband had been receiving threats, which he seemed to disregard as he proceeded with his trip to New York City. She mentioned, “There had been some threats… I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him.” Paulette, who works as a therapist in Minneapolis, expressed her heartbreak over her husband’s untimely death, describing him as a loving father and talented individual who made a significant impact on those around him.
In a text to local news station FOX 9, she stated, “We are shattered to hear about the senseless killing of our beloved Brian. Most importantly, Brian was an incredibly loving father to our two sons and will be greatly missed.” Paulette requested privacy for her family during this challenging time as they navigate their loss.
