Police in Florida are looking into the tragic deaths of a man and his young son, discovered by the boy’s mother over the Thanksgiving weekend. Terry Bivens, Jr., 44, and his 5-year-old son, Jackson Bivens, were found in their home in Lutz, and authorities suspect a murder-suicide incident.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the identities of the deceased. The investigation began on Friday, November 29, when Jackson’s mother contacted the sheriff’s office, stating she was unable to reach both Terry and Jackson.
According to Hillsborough County Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer, the mother, who is reportedly separated from Terry, called around 7:30 a.m. expressing concern that she could not get a response at the home or on the phone. Deputies conducted a wellness check and found the door locked with Terry’s car parked outside. Initially, they did not observe any signs of foul play.
Later that morning, around 9:30 a.m., the mother managed to enter the home and discovered the bodies of her son and ex-partner. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.
The sheriff’s office has not provided details on when they believe the events occurred or whether any custody issues may have played a role in the tragedy. No suicide notes were found during the initial search of the residence. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather information.
