A recent 911 call between a man with a gun and Ohio police has revealed a frightening situation involving his young daughter, who pleaded with him not to hurt her.
The girl, 7-year-old Oaklynn Alexander, was thankfully found safe and returned to her family after the incident, which occurred earlier this month.
The events unfolded on November 11, when Charles Ryan Alexander took Oaklynn from her grandmother’s home in Jefferson County, Ohio, after attempting to pick her up at school without success, according to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office.
An Amber Alert was issued with details about Alexander’s vehicle. Later that evening, police in Brunswick located him and his daughter.
As police approached to stop him, Alexander fled, leading to a car chase. Officers eventually deflated his tires, causing him to stop in a parking lot in Medina Township.
In a series of phone calls with dispatchers, Alexander made threats to both himself and his daughter, indicating he was armed. The chilling audio, released by authorities, captured his unsettling calm as he told his daughter they would be “going to heaven.”
During the call, he yelled, “I will shoot us both, stand back!” while Oaklynn could be heard desperately asking him, “please don’t.”
At one point, he expressed a desire to speak with the girl’s mother, suggesting she should have reached out to him. As Oaklynn questioned her father, asking how they would know they were “going to heaven,” he replied in a calm manner, insisting they would both go.
Despite her innocence, Oaklynn questioned, “I am going to heaven?” later exclaiming, “No!” When she began to cry, her father reassured her, saying, “’Cause you’re a good person.”
“I don’t want to go to heaven today,” she responded, her voice filled with rising panic. Alexander replied, “I didn’t want it to happen either, I just wanted to talk to your mother.”
Dispatchers on the line tried to reassure both the father and daughter, suggesting they not do anything irreversible. One dispatcher told him, “Let’s not do anything we can’t undo.”
Amidst the negotiations, Oaklynn continued to voice her concerns about going to heaven, pleading, “I don’t want to go to heaven today!” and insisting, “I’m not going to die.”
Despite the efforts to de-escalate the situation, Alexander was later shot by officers, and the young girl was rescued safely, according to the police reports.
