Chase Hunter scored a career-high 30 points, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Clemson University men’s basketball team to victory in an 84-71 loss against Boise State on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers, now 3-1 for the season, were powered by Hunter’s impressive performance. He scored 20 points in the first half, marking the highest scoring output for him in a single half, surpassing his previous best of 19 points on two occasions. Hunter made 12 of 21 shots, including 4 of 8 from beyond the arc, and was perfect at the free-throw line, going 2 for 2. He also contributed with six assists and three steals, leading the team in both categories.
Joining Hunter in double figures was Viktor Lakhin, who scored 13 points and grabbed four rebounds. Ian Schieffelin had a strong game as well, recording his 21st career game with double-digit rebounds by securing 12 boards, along with eight points, two assists, and one block.
Clemson struggled to find their shooting rhythm, finishing the game with a shooting percentage of 36.8% and only 24% from three-point range, hitting just six of 25 attempts.
The game started closely, with Clemson trailing by just one point at halftime (36-35). They took a brief lead shortly after the second half began. However, leading 39-38, Boise State responded with a significant 13-4 run to extend their lead to eight points.
Hunter did help narrow the gap with a three-point play, bringing the score to 53-51 with about 10 minutes left on the clock. Unfortunately, Boise State quickly regained control and stretched their lead to double digits, maintaining it until the end.
Looking ahead, the Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, November 21, when they take on Radford at Littlejohn Coliseum as part of the 2024 Sunshine Slam event. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and will be available on ACCNX.
In summary, Clemson’s recent performance left them at 3-1 for the season, with Hunter now having 1,307 career points, ranking him 24th on Clemson’s all-time scoring list. He is just one point away from tying Sharone Wright. Additionally, his twelve field goals represent a personal best, while his three steals tied his career high. Hunter’s six assists have also placed him in a tie for 10th in Clemson’s all-time assist rankings. Meanwhile, Schieffelin’s 12 rebounds mean he has now surpassed 600 in his career.
