Governor McMaster Announces Recovery Days for Farmers and Foresters
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina’s agribusiness, a crucial part of the state’s economy, generates over $50 billion annually. Unfortunately, this year has been tough for local farmers. Drought and storms have resulted in about $620 million in damages, according to the South Carolina Department of Agriculture.
Additionally, the State Forestry Commission reports nearly $200 million in damage to trees across the state, with most of the affected trees situated on private property.
To assist in rebuilding after these challenges, Governor Henry McMaster has scheduled three Farm and Forest Recovery Resource Days. These events will provide farmers with the opportunity to connect with 22 different agencies and learn how to apply for disaster relief funds.
The first recovery event is set for Friday, November 8, at the USC Aiken campus.
