A former girlfriend of rock legend Jim Morrison has opened up about her experiences with the late frontman of The Doors, revealing disturbing details about their relationship. Judy Huddleston, featured in the new docuseries Before the End: Searching for Jim Morrison, claims that Morrison sexually assaulted her during their time together.
In her own words, Huddleston recounts a moment from their courtship, saying, “I didn’t want to do it, and I totally said no. And then he pinned my arms back and down, and that’s why I think — not excusing it, but I think he just went psycho.” She recalls a dramatic shift in Morrison’s demeanor, describing how his piercing blue eyes transformed into a look of rage, making her feel as if she was facing a “possessed monster.”
Morrison and Huddleston were romantically linked for four years after they met backstage at a concert in the late 1960s. Following Morrison’s untimely death at 27 in July 1971, she reflected on their relationship in her book This Is the End… My Only Friend: Living and Dying with Jim Morrison, which she later updated and re-released in 2013 as Love Him Madly.
Huddleston expressed a complicated view of her relationship with Morrison, stating that she appreciated loving someone without being controlling or jealous. She had hoped to win him over, without realizing the emotional toll it was taking on her. “I feel more compassion for Jim than before — he seems so trapped,” she noted.
After growing disillusioned with fame, Morrison performed his last concert with The Doors in December 1970 and moved to Paris with his girlfriend Pamela Courson, seeking to find peace and devote himself to writing poetry. Tragically, Courson would later find Morrison dead in their apartment’s bathtub, and no autopsy was conducted.
The docuseries Before the End, directed by Jeff Finn, investigates Morrison’s downward spiral while probing into the complex layers of his character. Other individuals close to Morrison have recounted similar troubling behaviors, including instances of aggression toward women.
In a broader context, this narrative reminds us of the importance of speaking out against abuse and the complexities of fame and personal relationships. If anyone needs support regarding sexual assault, they are encouraged to reach out to the National Sexual Assault Hotline.
