Morgan Wallen is set to have his bar sign installed after the Nashville Metro Council granted approval for it recently. This decision comes almost seven months after the council initially rejected the permit for the sign above his establishment, This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen, located on Broadway.
The council’s earlier decision was made during a meeting where 30 members voted against a request from the development company behind the bar. Concerns were raised regarding Wallen’s past behavior, including previous legal troubles.
Councilwoman Delishia Porterfield highlighted her worries about allowing a sign for someone with Wallen’s history. She referenced incidents, including a felony charge after Wallen threw a chair off a rooftop and a past video where he used a racial slur. Porterfield expressed that Nashville should promote a welcoming environment for everyone and felt that allowing Wallen’s sign would contradict that.
Just days before the approval of the sign, Wallen appeared in court, accepting a plea deal for his earlier chair-throwing incident. The court sentenced him to a week in a DUI education program, along with two years of probation and fines.
His attorney noted that Wallen has been cooperative with authorities and is focused on making a positive impact through his music and charitable work. If Wallen successfully completes his probation, there is a chance that his charges could be dismissed in the future.
