Attempted Drowning Incident at Florida Vacation Resort
A family holiday in Florida turned dangerous when a British man allegedly tried to drown his daughter-in-law, according to local authorities.
Mark Gibbon, 62, now faces charges of attempted murder and felony battery after a disturbing incident on Sunday at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, around 40 miles south of Orlando.
The trouble began during a disagreement between Gibbon and his daughter-in-law, Jasmine Wyld, regarding his will, which escalated into a physical altercation.
Witnesses reported that Wyld’s 9-year-old daughter saw the struggle from inside their rental home. In an effort to help her mother, the girl jumped into the pool and tried to pull Gibbon off Wyld. However, onlookers claimed Gibbon pushed the girl away and continued to hold Wyld’s head underwater.
A nearby witness stated they saw Gibbon force Wyld under the water multiple times and even scratch her chest during the confrontation. This prompted them to call 911, fearing for Wyld’s safety.
In a later interview with deputies, Wyld explained that the fight began as they discussed Gibbon’s grandchildren. She stated that he repeatedly pushed her under the water during their argument.
Gibbon acknowledged the argument and admitted to pushing Wyld under the water, but claimed it was not his intention to drown her.
Authorities noted that while Gibbon had no visible injuries, Wyld had a noticeable scratch on her chest. Following the incident, Gibbon was taken into custody at the Polk County Jail, where he is currently being held without bail.
