An elderly man in New York City tragically died after attempting to escape a home invasion over the weekend. The incident occurred early Saturday morning around 4:40 a.m. in Washington Heights, where three intruders broke into an apartment.
According to police reports, one of the suspects accessed the apartment by climbing a fire escape and letting in the other two burglars. They tied up a 40-year-old man living there and stole a gold chain worth approximately $8,000 along with around $200 in cash.
During this distressing situation, the victim’s father, 73-year-old Jacinto Remigo, fell from a sixth-floor window while trying to escape. Authorities stated he landed on construction scaffolding below and was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Neighbors described a chaotic scene, with one witnessing Remigo climb out of the window and fall while trying to reach another window, impeded by an air conditioning unit. Authorities are continuing their investigation into how this tragic fall happened and are actively searching for the suspects involved in the break-in. As of now, no descriptions of the intruders have been disclosed to the public.
