A 7-year-old boy in Ohio was hospitalized after being injured by a stray bullet that came through the wall of his apartment.
Authorities reported that around 2:45 a.m. on December 21, police received a call about the incident at an apartment building on Wildwood Avenue in West Akron. The young boy was shot and his mother was on the phone with 911, pleading for help while trying to comfort her son, who was crying in fear.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and rushed the child to a local hospital. Fortunately, he is currently in serious but stable condition after undergoing successful surgery.
According to reports, the investigation is still ongoing, but police believe that the shots were fired from an upstairs apartment, with at least one bullet traveling through the floor and striking the boy. Officers investigated the unit above but found no occupants at the time. However, they did discover a bullet hole in the floor.
The Akron Police Department stated that while details remain unclear, it seems that an unknown individual shot a firearm inside the upstairs apartment, leading to this unfortunate incident.
Detectives are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the individuals involved to contact the Akron Police Department.
This incident raises serious concerns about safety and gun use in residential areas, particularly when innocent children are involved.
