Tragic Stabbing Incident in Portland
In a heartbreaking incident, 24-year-old Neilyann Ysam was found dead in a Portland, Oregon home on July 19. The tragic event unfolded while her four young children were present in the house. The alarm was raised by her 4-year-old daughter, who informed authorities that her father had harmed her mother.
S Mate Joseph, 28, who is the father of Ysam’s children, was arrested later that day in nearby Vancouver, Washington.
Police reports reveal that Ysam had been staying with her aunt to escape alleged domestic abuse from Joseph. On the day of the incident, he reportedly called 911, claiming to have stabbed a “loved one” and expressed uncertainty about their survival.
When authorities arrived, they discovered five children in the home, all unharmed. Four of the children belonged to Ysam, who had sought refuge at her aunt’s place due to past violence. Records show that Joseph had a history of violence against Ysam, including a guilty plea for assault when she was pregnant in 2019. In 2020, he was cited for violating a protection order issued against him.
Joseph faces charges of second-degree murder and first-degree burglary, but he has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
This tragic case serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help. If anyone is facing similar circumstances, help is available through the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233, which offers confidential support 24/7.
