Tragic Incident in N.C. Home: Teen Charged with Murder
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly shooting his aunt, uncle, and his uncle’s mother in their home in Lillington, North Carolina, on August 12.
The victims were identified as Danny Richards, 57, his wife, Sabrina Richards, 54, and Danny’s mother, Clara Richards, 74. All three suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The suspect now faces charges of two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
The shooting occurred during a celebration for Sabrina’s birthday. At around 5:18 p.m., a call was made to authorities by the couple’s 10-year-old nephew, who was unharmed.
When officials arrived, they found Danny and Sabrina dead. Clara, who was critically injured with a gunshot wound to her abdomen, was taken to Womack Army Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries later.
The 10-year-old nephew was safe, but the family’s truck and the 15-year-old suspect were reported missing. A search led to the discovery of the truck near NC Highway 87, and the suspect was found hiding in the woods later that night.
As Clara passed away, the charges against the teenager were likely to be updated to include a third count of first-degree murder.
Danny and Sabrina Richards were both U.S. Army veterans, with Danny serving as a senior pastor at Genesis Grace Ministry in Fayetteville after his military career. They had taken in the teenager to provide him with a better life, according to a family friend. The friend described them as loving individuals who were well-respected in their community.
Many who knew the Richards family expressed shock at the tragic turn of events, highlighting their kindness and dedication to helping others.
