A man in Alaska, David Anderson, has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in the kidnapping and assault of a 14-year-old girl. This horrifying incident took place on November 2, 2022.
Anderson, 52, will serve 50 additional years in federal prison, adding to the 85 years he’s already received on state charges. The young girl showed incredible strength, managing to overcome her captor’s brutal actions and survive to report the crime.
According to court documents, Anderson kidnapped the girl at gunpoint, binding her hands and covering her eyes with a blindfold. He then drove her to a remote area where he assaulted her violently before shooting at her and leaving her in the woods, believing she was dead.
Remarkably, the girl managed to chew through the duct tape tying her hands. Although Anderson had taken her cell phone and other belongings, she found her way back to the road and flagged down a passing motorist for help, all while battling freezing temperatures.
Anderson eventually confessed to the charges he faced, including kidnapping a minor and committing an offense as a registered sex offender. He had a past conviction for sexual assault dating back to 2001.
During the attack, Anderson had pretended to be lost and lured the girl into his car under false pretenses. He then violently restrained her and drove her away, forcing her into the woods. After the assault, he fired multiple shots at her.
The survivor’s bravery was key in leading to Anderson’s arrest the same day, as she provided a description of him and his vehicle to the authorities. Law enforcement has praised her courage, and the investigation by Alaska State Troopers and the FBI has been commended for bringing Anderson to justice.
