A 12-year-old boy found himself in a lot of trouble after leading police on a short chase while driving his grandfather’s stolen car across the Washington mountains.
On Wednesday, November 27, authorities reported that the boy, whose name has not been released, was arrested by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. This came after the Issaquah Police Department alerted deputies that he had stolen his grandfather’s car.
The sheriff’s office learned the boy might be heading toward Grant County, particularly connecting to Moses Lake. Officers began searching for the car and spotted it parked around 10:20 a.m. on Lowry Street in the Larson Community.
However, when deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the young driver led them on a brief pursuit. It ended safely near Randolph Road and State Route 17 when a deputy used a PIT maneuver to bring the stolen car to a stop.
The young driver had covered 161 miles before being intercepted by law enforcement.
Fortunately, no injuries occurred during the chase, and only minor damage was reported to the vehicle. After his arrest, the boy was taken to the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center and is facing charges for possession of a stolen vehicle and felony eluding.
