A shooting incident on Christmas evening at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport resulted in three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds, with one of those victims in critical condition. In addition, another person was found with a stab wound.
The Phoenix police are currently looking into the shooting, which occurred at a restaurant located in Terminal 4, outside the security checkpoints. According to police reports, the victims included a woman who is in life-threatening condition and two men who are now stable.
A male suspect and a juvenile have been detained in connection with the incident, and authorities noted that the man had a stab wound as well. Investigators discovered that all five individuals involved in the altercation are acquainted with each other.
Authorities believe the incident stemmed from a family dispute that escalated out of control. A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that while the situation interrupted some operations within Terminal 4, things have mostly returned to normal.
The airport spokesperson did not comment on specific gun policies, directing that query to local police. Sergeant Mayra Reeson from the Phoenix police clarified that the attack happened in a public area, outside of the TSA-secured zones, where individuals can carry legally-owned firearms.
In light of the incident, Reeson advised against bringing firearms to airports.
