ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A man has been charged following a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred on Halloween night, according to the Asheville Police Department.
Police report that around 8:30 p.m., a motorcyclist was traveling west on Haywood Road at the intersection with the I-240 East on-ramp when another vehicle heading east attempted to make a left turn onto the ramp. This maneuver resulted in a collision with the motorcyclist.
The rider, identified as 55-year-old Derrick White, was taken to a hospital but sadly passed away on November 5.
On November 20, the driver of the car, 25-year-old Trevor Matthew Cagle, surrendered himself to authorities and was subsequently booked into the Buncombe County Detention Center. He faces charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield while turning left. Cagle has been assigned a secured bond of $5,000.
The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
