An Oklahoma man has received a life sentence after admitting to the tragic murders of his family in their home.
Jacob Mayhugh, 22, pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree murder, which included the deaths of his parents, Patty and James Mayhugh, and his sister, Shayla Mayhugh. By entering this guilty plea, he avoided facing the death penalty. He will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The heartbreaking incident occurred on May 11 when the Mayhugh family was discovered dead from gunshot wounds. Jacob was located after a multi-day search by law enforcement.
According to authorities, Jacob had planned the crime ahead of time. He bought a rifle just weeks before the incident and had ammunition in his vehicle when he was arrested.
There are also concerns that Jacob may have been involved in other violent acts, as indicated in court documents. Despite this horrific crime, he had no previous criminal history prior to this case.
In the days leading up to the murders, Jacob told his girlfriend he was going to have dinner with his family. However, he took steps to conceal his actions by turning off his phone and deactivating his social media accounts on the night of the killings.
Family members have expressed their deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as an “unimaginable tragedy.” The community has rallied around the family, supporting them during this difficult time.
