A man in Spartanburg has been arrested for allegedly setting a house on fire following a heated argument with his aunt. The incident occurred on Saturday on Old Birch Road, where deputies were called to help investigate a suspected arson.
According to reports, the dispute stemmed from a disagreement between 28-year-old Timothy Bridges and his aunt. She mentioned that he expressed a wish for her death during their argument. The house, which was left to her by her late father, was uninhabited at the time, as she was working to renovate it.
After the argument, Bridges reportedly threatened to burn the house down. Later that morning, he returned home and took a shower, just moments before the property was engulfed in flames. A neighbor reported seeing a man fitting Bridges’ description near the fire, wearing a dark hoodie and tan pants. When authorities confronted Bridges, he was dressed in similar clothing.
He has since been charged with second-degree arson and is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on a $15,000 bond.
