Tragic Shooting Claims Life of UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson
In a shocking incident, Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealth Group, was shot and killed early Wednesday morning in Manhattan. The tragedy occurred outside the Hilton hotel located at 1335 Sixth Avenue.
According to a spokesperson for the New York Police Department, officers received a distress call around 6:40 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a 50-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
While police have not yet released the victim’s name, UnitedHealth Group has confirmed that Brian Thompson was the individual killed in the shooting.
Witnesses reported that the shooter fled the scene heading east on Sixth Avenue, and authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
Thompson became the CEO of UnitedHealth Group in April 2021. Before that, he served as the CEO for the company’s government programs division, which includes Medicare services. He had been with UnitedHealth Group since 2004.
In a heartfelt message shared on LinkedIn, Lorie Burleson, a Provider Advocate Account Manager at UnitedHealthCare, expressed her grief over his loss, stating, "This is an unimaginable loss for UnitedHealth Group and for everyone who knew him."
